Queen Mary typically wears formal attire, including the white belted gown and sash she wore when her husband ascended the throne as Frederick X on Sunday. However, she did not always dress like this.
The Queen was born Mary Donaldson in Tasmania, Australia, and was working as a real estate agent when she met Frederick in a Sydney pub in 2000, according to a 2003 interview with the couple. “60 Minutes Australia”
“It was clear from a very early stage that there was an expectation of appropriate attire and dressing for the event,” the then-princess told the Financial Times in 2022.
“It was quite daunting for me. I was a T-shirt and shorts girl and was known to walk barefoot,” she added.
