Ireland 23 – 22 Italy
Ireland defeated Italy in a thrilling Six Nations match in Cork on Friday night as the hosts battled it out for a one-point victory.
Ireland, who have won back-to-back Grand Slam tournaments, faced one of their toughest tests in a long time, having had a ton of turnovers over the past two seasons.
The game started perfectly for Ireland, with an early penalty and a try from Evan O’Connell extending their lead to 10 points.
But the Italians were also in the game, with Marco Scalabrine producing a magical moment from the restart after O’Connell’s try to reduce the gap.
However, Ben O’Connor scored his own try and it looked like it was a normal service, but Scalabrine pounced on the loose ball again from the restart to reduce the gap to just one point, and a penalty before the break gave Italy a chance. People led by 2 points. .
Both Italy and Ireland had chances to turn the game around in a tense and error-filled situation, but the first goal came late in the second half, with Ireland scoring after a number of missed corner kick attempts. I scored a PK.
But Italy once again showed their mettle, with star man Scalabran playing a key role in Italy’s third try.
But Ireland held their own and Sean Edogbo scored the final try of the game with a fine goal from a corner kick.
However, the drama didn’t stop there as Italy forced a penalty kick as the clock read red. The visiting team had ample opportunity to kick a match-winning drop goal, but chose to go wide when Ireland were forced into a crucial knock-on.

I’m sure they’ll aim for a drop goal soon. No, they take it out of play and Ireland wins!!! They take it out of play. Drama! Irish victory. What a game

Italy thought they would be penalized from the scrum, but the referee said no and reset. He also has 3 minutes.
Italy just wants to use it and get into drop-goal territory. Ireland do a good job and the ball spills forward and is cleared. Italy must do it.
If the visitor makes any mistake, the game is over. They go back halfway but Ireland push back. If Ireland buckle them up and Ireland get a penalty then that should be it.

This is just a great game. Ireland defended against serious pressure and were then forced to apply pressure themselves. There’s still plenty of time and they definitely exploded on the field. The Italian defense had nothing more to give and we see super-sub Sean Edogbo play the ball wide and get tackled over the line.

If Ireland win this game, they can thank their lineout defense and wreaking havoc on Italy’s set-pieces. But these Italians are something else. Italy took to the field fearlessly, kicking under pressure and their star man Scalabrine kicked perfectly to Piero Gritti and over the line, giving Italy back into the lead.
A tough conversion from a corner went wide.

Italy has seized the line and is pressing deep into Irish territory. It will be interesting to see what they do with the slow ball, but Hugo McLaughlin takes the ball away! He ran all over the field and his tackles were just short, giving Italy a penalty right at the try line. This game has it all.

This is a little troublesome. Italy panic a bit in possession and let Ireland come back and attack. Both teams made mistakes, but Ireland had a scrum inside Italy’s 22.
