Tánaiste Michel Martin said he had “full confidence” in the decision to suspend UNRWA officials suspected of participating in the Hamas attack on Israel last October.
He supports UN Secretary-General Philippe Lazzarini’s decision to investigate the matter “thoroughly” and show “zero tolerance for terrorism.”
Some staff members of the United Nations Palestinian Refugee Agency are suspected of taking part in the October 7 Hamas attack that killed nearly 1,200 people.
Mr Martin described the attack as “heinous” but said there were “no plans” for Ireland to cut funding to UNRWA.

This comes as some countries, including Italy, Australia, Finland and Canada, have suspended funding to UNRWA.
Meanwhile, the US and UK decided to suspend funding to the agency.

More than 100 UNRWA personnel have been killed while assisting refugees in the past four months.
“UNRWA’s 13,000 personnel save 2.3 million lives at incredible personal cost, and over the past four months more than 100 personnel have died.
“Ireland will provide €18 million to UNRWA in 2023 and continue its support in 2024,” it added.
