Mack Hansen considers switching to sevens ahead of Olympics
Hansen could still play in the Six Nations if selected

A few weeks ago, IRFU Performance Director David Nucifora announced that one athlete from each state would be allowed to join the Olympic squad.

If selected, the players will be allowed to represent Ireland at the Six Nations in February or March.

The Olympics will be held from July 26 to August 11, with members expected to be announced about a month before the start.

During a speech on the Big Jim Show, Hansen was asked if he wanted to change jobs.

The Connacht winger said: “I’ll do it. [Olympic] He has a ring tattoo somewhere on his body. Wearing a ring can also be a conversation starter.

“I’ve never played sevens. Those players are shredded. I’m not shredded at the moment. I’ve got a bit of a shredded gut right now.

“That’s the way forward. It’s going to be monumental for the Sevens game to see high-profile people like Dupont, who is literally the best player in the world.

“I think a lot of people are going to follow suit. It’s great. How many times will we get the chance to play in the Olympics? That will lead to the growth of the sport as a whole. If sevens is booming, then 15s will also be growing. I think we need to follow suit. ”

French scrumhalf Antoine Dupont announced a while ago that he will miss the Six Nations as he has already made the switch to Sevens.

Hansen admitted he was glad he didn’t have to face the French star at the start of the campaign.

He added: “DuPont is just another level.

“He’s damn good. He’s a strong little guy. I know that firsthand. He made me a meme. I see that video pop up every few weeks. I look back. It’s embarrassing.”

“He has it all. Strong, fast, smart. People always say, ‘Oh, you want to play your best.’ I would be happy not to have him on the team.” [French] team. I actually don’t want to play with him. I’d rather not have him around. ”
