KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 (Bernama) — National shooting ace Jonathan Wong yesterday ended his training period in Denmark by winning the silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol at the Denmark Open Air 2024.
The 31-year-old ‘fired’ 234.7 points, finishing second only to Indian champion Arjun Singh who scored 239 points in the competition held at the Wildbjerg Sports and Culture Centre.
Home shooter Hansen Jonas Koford had to settle for bronze with a score of 213.1.
National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) secretary general Hayati Shamsuri said he was happy that Jonathan had won a medal after finishing second in the qualifying round with 576 points.
“Jonathan has been in Denmark since January 14th to undergo training, which is also part of his preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will be held in July this year.
“This is a good decision for Jonathan. We want to help him play in more finals, gain experience and then reduce the discomfort if he plays in a major championship final. Because there are,” she told Bernama when contacted today.
Hayati said Jonathan, who is scheduled to arrive from Denmark this Tuesday (February 20), will attend the following events in Baku, Azerbaijan (May 1-12) and Munich, Germany (May 31-). He plans to continue training here before competing in two World Cup series. June 7).
