King Frederick and Queen Mary have unveiled a stunning new official family portrait from inside Christiansborg Palace.

Three photos posted on Instagram show the royal family posing in the throne room of a palace in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The King and Queen stand with their children, 18-year-old Crown Prince Christian, 16-year-old Princess Isabella, and 13-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

The photo was taken by photographer Dennis Stenild shortly after the King’s proclamation from the balcony of the Throne Room on January 14, 2024.

In the photo, Queen Mary is wearing a beautiful white dress. The dress was designed by Soren Le Schmidt and sewn by Birgit Hallstein.

In Europe, it is traditional for queens to wear white on the day their husbands become king, just as Queen Camilla wore white on the day of King Charles’ coronation.

Princess Isabella looked elegant in a bright red coat with her hair in a high bun and black heels.

Sister Josephine chose a plain black jacket with four gold buttons, black tights, and black patent shoes.

The post, translated from Danish, read: “The Throne Room at Christiansborg Castle is the setting for the first official portraits of Their Majesties the King and Queen.

“This series of portraits was taken by photographer Dennis Stenild minutes after the King’s proclamation from the balcony of the Throne Room on January 14, 2024.”

Royal fans were quick to praise the royal, with one social media user saying: “Great photo, congratulations!”

In the photo, the king is wearing royal robes with a medallion and a light blue sash.

These photos were taken after the king published a surprise book just three days into his reign.

The King’s Words provides insight into Frederick’s thoughts on topics such as Denmark’s place in the world and his relationship with his wife, Queen Mary.
