This weekend, King Frederik ascended the Danish throne following the shocking abdication of his mother Queen Margrethe.
Shortly after, royal families from around the world sent their congratulations to King Frederick and his wife, the new Queen Mary. King Charles, who is currently in Scotland with Queen Camilla, took the time to write a note of goodwill to Denmark’s new king and queen.
“My wife joins me in writing to convey our best wishes to Their Majesties on the day of your accession to the throne of the Kingdom of Denmark.To ensure the lasting bond between our countries, , I look forward to working with you all,” he wrote. Our country and our family remain strong and we look forward to working with you on issues of critical importance to our country and the wider world. ”
Charles also said of Queen Margrethe: “I pay tribute to your mother, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II, for her many years of service and fondly remember her frequent visits between our countries, including visits to Copenhagen and Elsinore in 2012. ”.
“I was delighted to have Their Majesties attend last year’s Coronation Ceremony, and I look forward to future opportunities to celebrate the close ties that unite our two countries and families,” he concluded.
In May 2023, Prince Frederick and Princess Mary were among the many royal guests who attended the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla. At the reception held at Buckingham Palace on the night of his coronation, Prince Charles seemed happy to greet the Danish royal family.
