Denmark’s King Frederick has a shiny new signature after his mother Queen Margrethe II abdicated earlier this month.
Denmark’s new monarch, who has been on the throne for just over a week, signed an autograph in a photo posted to the royal family’s official Instagram account.

Frederick’s new signature now ends in an “R”, an abbreviation of “Rex”, which means “king” in Latin. The late Queen Elizabeth also signed all her official documents using the initial “R” of “Regina,” which means “Queen.”
The caption of the Instagram post stated that this was the first signed letter Frederick sent to the nation celebrating his 100th birthday.
“The King also continues to send his blessings on the Diamond Wedding, Crown Diamond Wedding, Iron Wedding, and Nuclear Wedding, which mark the 60th, 65th, 70th, and 75th wedding anniversary, respectively,” the caption reads in part. It is written in

King Frederick ascended the throne with his wife Queen Mary on Sunday, January 14th. His mother, Margrethe, formally signed the declaration of abdication at the State Council in the presence of Frederik and his 18-year-old successor, Crown Prince Christian.
The royal family then headed to Christiansborg Palace, where Frederick delivered his first speech as king from the balcony. “My hope is to be the unified king of tomorrow. This is a task that I have worked on all my life. It is a task that I will take on with pride, respect and joy,” he declared.
The crowd erupted in applause and cheers once again as Queen Mary joined her husband on the balcony and sealed the moment with a kiss.
Margrethe’s abdication was a shock at first, said the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Juliet Lieden. Australian Women’s Weeklyexplained why now is the right time for the 83-year-old Queen to step down.

She saw the popularity of Frederick and Mary and thought they could energize the monarchy moving forward.
