King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark have announced that they will undertake their first royal tour together since taking the throne.
The royal couple, who became king and queen following Queen Margrethe’s abdication last month, are scheduled to visit Sweden, Norway, Greenland and the Faroe Islands this summer.
The palace’s Instagram account, which announced the upcoming trip, confirmed that the King and Queen will travel aboard the royal yacht Danneblog.
The couple, who have been married for about 20 years and have four children, will first visit Sweden in early May.
Next week, Frederick and Mary are scheduled to make an official visit to Norway.
The palace also outlined plans for the King and Queen of Denmark to visit the Faroe Islands and Greenland in June and July.
However, the company stressed that the dates for these two trips have not yet been finalized.
“The first state visit will be an opportunity for the new king and queen to meet the monarchs of Sweden and Norway, and will demonstrate the close ties between the Nordic monarchies,” the palace said in a statement.
The Royal Yacht Dannebrog has been the cruise ship of the Danish Royal Family since May 1932 and has sailed more than 800,000 miles.
This luxury yacht hosts the British Royal Family for both private holidays and official engagements abroad.
The yacht’s royal compartment still houses furniture and fixtures dating back to 1879 that were aboard the family’s previous yacht.
Frederick and Mary are keen sailors and took part in a yacht race in Sydney during a Christmas visit to the Queen’s homeland in December 2017.
