Three days into his reign, the King of Denmark published a new book, The Words of the King.
The surprise publication surprised many Danes and the media, as the new king had just been crowned on Sunday.
The King’s Words provides insight into Frederick’s thoughts on topics such as Denmark’s place in the world and his relationship with his wife, Queen Mary.
The book was co-authored with Jens Andersen, who also wrote a biography of the king in 2017.

He said: “I remember my 18th birthday feeling like the end of the world.
“It was a feeling that everything fun and exciting was coming to an end. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case.”
The book is based on interviews conducted over the past year and a half.

Her son Frederick and his wife Mary became the new king and queen.
In his first public speech, the King said: “My mother, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II, ruled Denmark for 52 years. For half a century, she has followed her time using our common heritage as a starting point.
“She will forever be remembered as an erratic monarch. Like most people, my mother also managed to become one with her kingdom. Today, the throne is inherited Masu.
“My hope is to be the United King of tomorrow. It is a job I have been looking forward to all my life. It is a responsibility that I take on with respect and pride, and with great joy.”
