Three local teams have progressed to the All-Ireland final, which will be played at the National Basketball Arena in Dublin later this month.
First, it was Limerick Celtic who advanced from Cork to the Women’s Division One Cup final (vs. Dublin Lions).
Inspired by Mikayla Brandon, who had 22 points and the most rebounds on the day, Limerick fought back from 10 down early in the third quarter to run out strong winners.
Lucy Devoy certainly came into bat for Limerick, scoring nine points in the third, added nicely by a basket from sub Edwards-Murphy and a three-pointer from Brandon, leaving the Treaty side in control.
“After halftime, our performance was much better and our defense really shut down the Oblates and made it much harder for them to dominate like they did in the first two quarters,” said the coach. Tony Hehir commented.
“Our defense was excellent and the players we strengthened also produced great scores, so I am satisfied with the team’s performance as a whole in the second half.”
Next, Limerick Sports Eagles withstood a tense fourth quarter against Moy Toluca Rovers to win 95-92 and qualify for the President’s Cup Final (vs. UCD Marian).
An incredible 56 points from Sam Finlay and Kieran Coates paved the way for the Eagles.
Limerick Celtic defeated St Brendan’s 78-53 in the U-20 Men’s Cup semi-final.
Martin Frawley was perfect for Tony Hehir’s side, scoring a game-high 29 points.
The Celtics are the reigning champions and their roster includes eight players from last season. Galway Titans are the other finalists.
