After slowly collecting entries over a week, all seven songs from Finland’s Eurovision national selection contest Uden Mushkin Kirpile (UMK) have been released. Listen, watch the video, and vote in the poll below.
Broadcasting station YLE has released one song and interview video of each artist every day since January 11th. cyan kick followed by Sexmane, Sarah Siipola, Jesse Mirkin, Windows95man, Sini Sabotage And finally michael gabriel & nuburu.
They will all be vying for the chance to represent Finland at Eurovision 2024, which UMK will host on February 10th (February 11th morning in Australia). Nokia Arena in Tampere. The winner will be decided by a mixed vote from the public and an international jury.
Here’s what you need to know about each act and their songs.
Cyan Kicks – “Dancing with Demons”
cyan kick is a four-piece hard-edged rock band that likes to experiment with different sounds, led by a female frontman. Susanna Alexandra. They competed at UMK 2022 with the song “Hurricane” and finished in second place behind fellow rockers The Rasmus. Now they are back and looking to do even better and book tickets to Malmö in May.
“Dancing With Demons” was co-written with British songwriter Dan Lancaster and is about facing your inner demons and turning them into strength.
Sex Mane – “Mania”
sex money He has become a hugely popular rapper in Finland. Her 2019 debut album spent more than 100 weeks on the Finnish album chart, and her follow-up, released last year, had 18 out of 20 songs in the top 50 of the singles chart.
His song “Mania” is deeply personal and deals with the ups and downs of battling depression and mental health.he said eurovision.tv: “The words in the chorus embody my thoughts. It’s perfectly okay to be a little ‘crazy’. I know that many young people struggle with mental health issues. I want to give them the strength and courage to endure.”
Sara Siipola – “Pascana”
“I’m a mess.”
Yes, that’s the big line in the chorus (check the English subtitles). In fact, if you fire up Google Translate, it will translate “pascana” into another rude word.
Aside from the cursing, Sarah SiipolaThe track is a hyper-personal power ballad about feeling loss and dealing with it. Siipola wrote about a friend who had lost her father and her struggle to attend a dinner party they attended while dealing with the grief. She has been involved in the Finnish music scene for the past five years and this is her first time with UMK.
Jesse Merkin – “Glow”
jesse merkin He was born in Liberia and grew up in Viljakkara, a small Finnish town of only 2,500 people. He was active as part of his hip-hop group Megaphone State for 12 years before going solo and won the Finnish Grammy Award in 2019.
Maclin said “Glow” has an important underlying message of “never give up.” eurovision.tv that song It contains “Afro vibes, cosmic soundscapes, etc.”.
Windows95man – “There are no rules!”
Windows95 man, aka Teemu Keisteri, is giving it a shot with his debut single with UMK after becoming a bit of a viral sensation with his YouTube videos in recent years. He also served as the undercard for last year’s UMK winner. Kaaliya at last year’s big post-Eurovision homecoming performance at the Helsinki Ice Hall.

Sini Sabotage – “Quoli Mua”
Shini’s sabotage She is another well-known name in Finland, serving as a judge on the season of their version of Idol in 2013 and previously having a number one hit single. I don’t know what she’s been doing for the past 10 years or so, but in 2024 she’ll be doing her UMK.

Michael Gabriel & Nubre – “Vox Populi”
Rounding out this year’s UMK nominations is a Finnish-Estonian rap duo. michael gabriel and nuburuwith the anthemic, stick-it-to-man-themed track Vox Populi (meaning “Voice of the People”).
gabriel said eurovision.tv That the song “deals with” Political and cultural divisions, and even though we’re all entitled to our opinions, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re true. Everyone should have their voice heard, but also remember that they will be judged no matter what. ”
The duo has had great success with their solo work in their respective countries, and first collaborated in 2020 for the song “Universum.”
