UK-based electric shipping company Artemis has sold a high-tech hydrofoil work boat to a Danish island resort, demonstrating the potential of all-electric maritime transport in a luxurious setting.
Vejlo Resort is an island getaway located southwest of Copenhagen, just east of the Great Belt shipping route, a major route for merchant traffic in the Baltic Sea. Artemis is building a 12-metre-long all-electric passenger transport boat for Vegilois, based on a serial production model at Artemis’ UK factory. The foil is equipped with an automated “flight control” system that allows the crew to focus on navigation.

Artemis says the ship will be the first of its kind in Denmark and is scheduled to enter service from summer 2024.
Artemis’ foil boat business is quickly taking off. The company is also designing a larger ferry-type vessel, measuring 24 meters in length, and has secured funding from HSBC to support its international sales ambitions.
