Queen Margrethe, Denmark’s former monarch, said this from the bottom of her heart. It’s just a month since she abdicated in favor of her eldest son King Frederick and his Australian-born wife Queen Mary.
King Frederick of Denmark’s new memoir, “The King’s World,” is a candid account of his marriage to Queen Mary and his life as monarch. The memoir gives readers a rare glimpse into Frederic’s marriage and alludes to his alleged “infidelity” with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova, with whom he was spotted in Madrid last year. . “I love marriage, my wife, my children, and the whole happy foundation that comes with people who manage to stay together and endure,” he wrote. Frederick’s memoirs also mention how Queen Mary was told that his ideas were “not always right” and that he was not “automatically believed” because he was a man. ing. Queen Mary is also said to have criticized the newly appointed king for the outdated lessons she was taught by her late, “very patriarchal” father. In the Conjode, the King called Queen Mary his “partner and winged woman,” and during their meeting, former Queen Margrethe spoke of their compatibility at their 2004 wedding, saying, “My mother, Queen Margrethe. I remember him saying in his wedding speech in 2004 that he had found peace and joy with Mary.”
Queen Margrethe, 83, announced her sudden abdication in her annual New Year’s Eve address to the nation, formally handing over her duties to King Frederik X and Queen Mary on January 15.
On Wednesday, the monarch thanked the country for its support during the historic coronation ceremony.
“Since the beginning of the year, I have been happy to feel the tremendous warm attention from all parts of the (Danish) Federation in connection with my abdication exactly one month ago,” she said in a post shared on Denmark’s official Instagram said in a statement.
“For the gifts I have received and for all those who wrote, painted, baked, knitted, planted flags, sang or otherwise sent greetings on the occasion of the change of throne. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
“The many greetings have touched my heart, and I am grateful for each and every one.”
The post included photos of some of the many drawings and letters sent to Margrethe from children across Denmark.
In one slightly humorous painting, the Tasmanian-born Mary is depicted much larger than her husband and mother-in-law, perhaps hinting at the queen’s immense popularity in her homeland.
As of January 2024, Mary has an enviable 85 percent approval rating from the Danish public, one point higher than her own husband Frederic.
Margrethe was Europe’s longest reigning monarch for 52 years at the time of her abdication, and is also a highly acclaimed artist and costume designer.
Last year, the Queen created 51 costumes for the film Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction, which was distributed worldwide by Netflix.
Margrethe’s sweet tribute came as the new King and Queen prepare for their first joint overseas trip around Scandinavia aboard the royal yacht Dannebrog.
“The first state visit will be an opportunity for the new king and queen to meet the monarchs of Sweden and Norway, demonstrating the close ties between the Nordic monarchies,” Denmark’s Palace said in a statement last week.
