Crown Princess Mary is preparing for her role as queen after her mother-in-law shocked the nation by announcing her abdication in a New Year’s Eve speech.
However, it is still unclear how life will change for the Australian royal family.
Mary, 51, is beloved at home and was appointed regent in October 2019, giving her the power to carry out duties as head of state during Margrethe II’s overseas stays and engagements. However, fans will be looking forward to seeing what kind of person Mary is now. She plays her new role.
Queen Margrethe announced yesterday that she will be stepping down from the throne after 52 years.
She will be succeeded by her son Crown. prince frederickJanuary 14th.
It’s about his wife Mary, whom he first met in a pub. sydneywill soon become the world’s first Australian-born queen.
When she was working as an executive at an advertising company, She met Frederick for the first time. She had no idea that the handsome European tourist she chatted with for hours in a packed city pub 23 years ago was actually the future King of Denmark.
Now married for 19 years and the proud parents of four children, Mary charmed her adopted homeland with her dedication to her royal duties and fluency in the language.
And despite years of speculation about the royal couple’s marital status, there is no concrete information to suggest they are happily married.
The pair were recently rocked by rumors after photos surfaced of Frederic, 55, enjoying a night out with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova in Madrid in October.
However, despite the suspicion of “infidelity”, Frederick and Mary show unity As they head to Aarhus Cathedral, Christmas Eve.
Here, FEMAIL looks at what will change and what will stay the same in Mary’s life as she moves towards her new role…
Guidance from mother-in-law
A source in 2021 said Margrethe’s resignation had been on her mind for quite some time.
Sources told Woman’s Day that the royal family has been slowly but surely mentoring their daughter-in-law over the years.
“If Margrethe’s plan goes through, it will be an unofficial resignation, but one can imagine that Mary will still be subject to her mother-in-law’s opinion. That doesn’t mean things have changed already. ” they said.
“Mary has taken over the reins from Margrethe for several years and she wants to help in any way she can.”
The source added that Mary “bloomed” under her mother-in-law’s guidance.
“She can finally fulfill her fairytale destiny,” they continued. “Margrethe’s just a short flight away, in case you need Mary.”
continue champion charity
Mary may be encouraged to do more with the foundation in her new role.
According to its website, the organization works to “combat social isolation based on the belief that everyone has the right to belong.”
It tackles issues such as bullying, loneliness and domestic violence.
Earlier this month, Mary hinted at future “successes” and big things in posts on the foundation’s website and Instagram.
The letter was about loneliness and the need for positive relationships during the Christmas season, but it also offered a hint of something bigger.
She added: “So much happened at the same time that it’s impossible to put it all into words.”
“As we near the end of 2023, we enter the holidays grateful for all that we humans can do together. We need each other to succeed.”
Along with the powerful message, a photo of the royal family in the snow was also posted.
She wore a purple jacket under a warm wool wrap and flashed a soft smile for the camera.
The royal family has shown an interest in a variety of causes in the past, including humanitarian aid, support for research and science, and social and health initiatives.
In between raising children and attending diplomatic events, Mary worked tirelessly to prove her commitment to philanthropy, becoming a patron of more than 25 international organizations since her marriage to Frederic in 2004.
This includes the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe and the United Nations Population Fund, where she supports efforts to promote maternal health in more than 150 developing countries.
According to royal correspondent Kenth G. Madsen, Mary will “play a very important role” and “will not be an invisible queen.”
However, he also explained that caution may be needed in efforts regarding women’s and children’s rights overseas to avoid stepping into political territory.
She and Frederik may need to expand their repertoire to include themes that Margrethe was passionate about. ”Like it’s not just about more modern topics. ”
A friend’s entourage?
It is unclear whether Mary will have a new team to advise and support her in her new role as Queen.
But she will probably rely on her many close-knit friends.
caroline healing
Since the princess married Prince Frederick, Caroline Heering is thought to have been one of her closest friends and confidantes.
She also served as Mary’s lady-in-waiting and personal secretary.
In 2010, Caroline began to dedicate herself to the Mary Foundation, taking on the position of Official Advisor. However, she reportedly resigned from her directorship in 2023.
It was reported in 2017 that Caroline was married to Peter, one of Frederic’s childhood friends, and that they have two daughters, Emily and Rosemary.
tanja doky
The princess is said to have a strong friendship with Tarja Doky, Princess Mary’s former maid of honor and private secretary.
Tanya worked with the Princess for seven years, eventually leaving Princess Mary to take up a position as communications manager at Maersk Container Industries in 2015.
Tanya is married to famous jazz musician Chris Min Doky, and the two have two children, Frida and Milo.
However, they later separated.
Birgitte’s handiwork
Jeppe’s partner Birgitte Handwerk, one of Prince Frederick’s best friends, was one of Princess Mary’s first friends in Denmark.
Their friendship was not only forged early, but they have also shared significant experiences over the past decade in that they have both raised young families at the same time.
While Birgitte is the godmother of Princess Mary’s daughter Josephine, Jeppe is the godfather of her son Christian.
Mary also attended Jeppe and Birgitte’s wedding in 2002.
Australian home visit
Mary’s new role could impact how often she can visit her home in Australia.
And the royal family looked very emotional after completing their pre-Christmas breakdown earlier this month.
The future queen appeared to wipe away tears as she bid farewell to friends and prepared to travel back to Denmark as she departed Queenstown Airport in New Zealand after a four-day trip during a visit to her native Australia.
This is not only her home, but also the place where the royal and her husband’s love story began.
Mary was 28 years old when she met Frederick at a slip-in in Sydney 23 years ago.
After meeting in a pub, Fred, then 32, who was in Australia to cheer on the Danish sailing team at the 2000 Olympics, asked Mary for her phone number and romance blossomed.
“The first time we met, we shook hands. I didn’t know he was the Prince of Denmark. Half an hour later, someone came up to me and said, ‘Do you know who these people are? “said. Mary opened up about her meeting with the heir to the Danish throne in an interview.
The pair dated long distance for a year, with Frederic secretly traveling Down Under until Mary moved to Denmark in 2001 to study Danish at Studies Kolen in Copenhagen.
In early 2003, Frederick’s mother, Queen Margrethe, publicly confirmed their relationship, and the two announced their engagement later that year on 8 October at Amalienborg Castle.
Frederick and Mary were married in Copenhagen Cathedral on May 14, 2004, with the new Crown Prince wearing a beautiful gown by Danish designer Uffer Frank and a 1905 wedding by Queen Margaret of Sweden. I chose the veil that the Crown Princess used for the first time.
In honor of her heritage, Mary carried a bouquet of Australian snow gums and eucalyptus studded with flowers from the palace gardens.
The family has returned to Mary’s native Australia many times, visiting famous landmarks in Sydney, Canberra and the Northern Territory, and even spent Christmas Down Under.
Royal Residence
Currently, Mary and her family live in Frederick VIII’s palace at Amalienborg Castle.
She and Frederick took over the property from the state in 2010, and it took six years to complete a complete renovation and restoration.
Today, it is their private residence with administrative and ceremonial functions.
They also live in the Prime Minister’s residence at Fredensborg Palace.
Royal correspondent Kenth G. Madsen said the couple will continue to live in their current home and have no plans to move.
