It’s a busy time for the Danish royal family, with the abdication of Queen Margaret II and the arrival of a new king and queen. The first official photo of Their Majesties King Frederick X and Queen Mary has been released. These photos were taken by Danish photographer Dennis Stenild shortly before the King’s proclamation in the Throne Room at Christiansborg Castle on January 14, the day of Frederick’s coronation. One photo shows the new king and queen with their four children, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine. Two more photos were broadcast, including one of the King and Queen side by side and one of the newly titled Crown Prince Christian, the eldest son of Mary and Frederic and the new heir presumptive at 18 years old. Photos are also included.
The family has been photographed wearing “coronation” costumes. The king wears a ceremonial costume adorned with medals, including the unique Order of the Elephant, a centuries-old symbol of the country’s highest honor. Crown Princess Mary wore a classic white dress by Danish designer Soren Le Schmidt, which she accessorized with Danish ruby parure earrings. Crown Prince Christian opts for a sophisticated suit, while Princess Isabella, a step away from the old block, wears a red dress (it’s easy to imagine Crown Prince Mary wearing it).
