The Patria Armored Modular Vehicle (AMV) was developed by the Finnish company Patria in close cooperation with the Finnish Defense Forces.
The Patria AMV is currently in mass production, with more than 1,400 units on order. The winners were Croatia, Finland, Poland, Slovenia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Slovakia.
Production of the XA series wheeled armored personnel carriers began in 1984. Since then, Patria Vehicles has continuously produced over 1,200 of his XA series armored wheeled vehicles in various versions.

The AMV has a top speed of over 100km/h and a range of 800km. The vehicle can negotiate 60% front slopes, 30% side slopes, steps of 0.7 meters and ditches up to 2.1 meters wide. The vehicle can cross water up to a depth of 1.8 meters.
The vehicle is fitted with two shrouded propellers, one on each side of the rear hull for amphibious capabilities. Swimming speed is 6 km/h to 9 km/h.
DI 12 Scania diesel engine
The dual power DI 12 Scania diesel engine produces 360kW and 1,974Nm of torque. The drive system uses a ZF Ecomat 7HP902 7+1-speed automatic transmission.
Other diesel engines such as Caterpillar, Cummins, and MTU can also be installed in the vehicle to suit the logistics requirements of the customer’s country.
The driveline includes all-wheel drive, 14.00 R 20 tires with run-flat device, disc brakes, and central tire inflation system. The central tire inflation feature reduces ground pressure. All wheels have independent suspension. The suspension system is equipped with hydropneumatic elements with optional ride height control.
Ordering and deploying Patria AMV
The Finnish Defense Forces ordered 24 AMV 8×8 Advanced Mortar System (AMOS) versions to be delivered between 2006 and 2009, and 100 Patria AMV 8×8 APCs in the first quarter of 2003. I signed a letter of intent to purchase the version. .
In December 2004, Patria received an order for the first 62 APC vehicles equipped with Kongsberg heavy machine gun turrets. His first two AMOS vehicles were delivered to him in March 2006.
In December 2002, the Polish Ministry of Defense selected the Patria AMV to meet its requirements for 690 armored vehicles named Rosomak, an 8×8 wheeled armored modular vehicle based on the first generation Patria AMV product line. Announced.
Poland’s state-run military production company, Wojskołe Szaklady Mechanicune (WZM), is the prime contractor, and Patria is the main contractor for the basic vehicle. Continuous deliveries began in 2004.
WZM and Patria signed a new license agreement in July 2013, with WZM having license rights to manufacture Rosomaks until 2023 and maintenance rights until 2052. Patria retains full rights and continues to provide the most important vehicle parts.
WZM won a contract from the Polish Army in 2013 to supply an additional 307 Rosomak 8×8 AMV vehicles by 2019.
In 2007, 24 Rosomak vehicles were deployed to Afghanistan in support of the NATO International Security Assistance Force.
In December 2006, Slovenia ordered 135 Patria AMV vehicles in four variants. One of the variants features Patria’s new advanced mortar system with his NEMO 120 mm smoothbore turret.
Other variants include those equipped with Rafael Spike anti-armor missiles. The first 13 cars were manufactured by Patria in Finland, and the rest by a joint venture between Patria and Slovenia’s Gorenje and Rotis.
Israel’s Elbit Systems was to supply a 30mm unmanned gun turret and a 40mm overhead remote-controlled weapon system, but the order was canceled and the vehicle was equipped with a Kongsberg Protector remote-controlled weapon station.
The first prototype vehicle was delivered in December 2007. The first production vehicle was delivered in September 2008. First deliveries of NEMO mortar systems began in June 2009.
In May 2007, Denel Land Systems (prime contractor) was awarded a contract for 264 Patria AMV vehicles for the South African Army. Early vehicles were produced in Finland, and later production was transferred to BAE Land Systems in South Africa. Denel supplied the vehicle’s turret.
Five variants of this vehicle were required: command, mortar, missile, section, and fire support. Variants of the missile are equipped with Denel Dynamics Ingwe anti-armor missiles.
In October 2007, Croatia ordered 84 Patria AMV vehicles. The vehicles are manufactured by Finland’s Patria and Croatia’s Djuro Djaković Special Vehicles (DDSV).
DDSV will be responsible for the delivery and final integration of special mission equipment. A further 42 vehicles were ordered in January 2009. Deliveries of all vehicles began in 2009 and were completed in 2012. Patria has delivered a total of 126 Patria AMV vehicles to Croatia.
In January 2008, the UAE ordered an undisclosed number of AMV vehicles. The UAE ordered additional vehicles in January 2016.
In August 2010, the Swedish Defense Materiel Agency ordered 113 Patria AMVs for the Swedish Army. The SEK 2.5 billion contract includes an option to add a further 113 vehicles.
Patria and Germany’s IBD Deisenroth Engineering have built an AMV demonstrator equipped with the IBD AMAP-ADS active defense system.
ADS provides 360-degree protection against a variety of threats, including kinetic energy, shaped munitions, including RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenades, and improvised explosive devices.
