A female pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in County Donegal, becoming the seventh person to die on Irish roads in the first five days of the new year.
The incident occurred on Friday evening on the N56 road in Ilistrin.
The woman, who was in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The crash was the third fatal crash on Irish roads on Friday.
The N56 road remained closed between Letterkenny and Kilmaclennan on Friday evening, with a technical inspection of the scene due to take place on Saturday morning.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them and are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 6pm and 7.15pm and has dashcam or other camera footage. I am asking you to do so.
Elsewhere on Friday, a woman in her 80s died in an accident involving a car and a minibus in County Meath.
The accident happened on the R156 at Scariff Bridge in the village of Batterstown at around 12pm.
The woman driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
The minibus driver, aged in his 50s, and a young male passenger were taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Earlier, a man in his 30s died in an accident on Mayo Island.
The accident involving two cars happened on the R331 at Belladuff, Tuggeen, near Claremorris, at around 7.45am on Friday.
The driver and sole passenger of one of the vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other car, a woman in her 20s, was taken to Mayo University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
