Denmark’s 83-year-old Queen Margrethe, who abdicated in January in favor of her son Frederik, won the costume designer award on Saturday, Denmark’s equivalent of the Oscars.
The royal family won the Robert Award for their work on the Netflix film “Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction,” an adaptation of the book by Danish author Karen Blixen, best known for her memoir “Out of Africa.” . August is one of the Scandinavian country’s most acclaimed filmmakers.
The former king, who cited health issues when announcing his surprise abdication in his customary New Year’s Eve speech, did not attend the award ceremony in Copenhagen on Saturday.
The film’s producer, Marcella Deitchman, accepted the award on her behalf.
Alongside her royal duties, the Queen has made a name for herself over the years as an accomplished artist.

She is a painter and illustrator and has worked many times as a costume and set designer for the Royal Danish Ballet and the Royal Danish Theatre.
The Queen also designed the sets for Ehrengart, which was nominated for a Robert Prize in the same category.
A hugely popular figure in Denmark, Margrethe studied at Cambridge in the UK and the Sorbonne in Paris and is fluent in English, French, German and Swedish.

She also translated plays under a pseudonym, including Simone de Beauvoir’s All Men Must Die, in which she co-starred with her French-born husband, the late Dauphin Henrik.
She has illustrated several books, including the 2002 Danish edition of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, and her paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries in Denmark and abroad.
Margrethe underwent major back surgery last year and handed over the throne to her son on January 14 after a 52-year reign, becoming King Frederik X.
