COPENHAGEN, Feb. 4 — Denmark’s 83-year-old Queen Margrethe, who abdicated in January in favor of her son Frederick, won the award for best costume designer, Denmark’s equivalent of the Oscars, on Saturday.

The former king, who cited health issues when announcing his surprise abdication in his customary New Year’s Eve speech, did not attend the award ceremony in Copenhagen on Saturday.
The film’s producer, Marcella Deitchman, accepted the award on her behalf.
Alongside her royal duties, the Queen has made a name for herself over the years as an accomplished artist.
She is a painter and illustrator and has worked many times as a costume and set designer for the Royal Danish Ballet and the Royal Danish Theatre.
The Queen also designed the set Ehrengard It was also nominated for a Robert Award in that category.
A hugely popular figure in Denmark, Margrethe studied at Cambridge in the UK and the Sorbonne in Paris and is fluent in English, French, German and Swedish.
