Roy Keane has indicated he may be interested in the vacant Ireland manager position as the search for Stephen Kenny’s replacement continues.
Former Manchester United and Ireland captain Keane, who served as number two during Martin O’Neill’s five-year reign, has confirmed he is considering a return to the national team.
Asked about the vacancy on his YouTube show Stick to Football, the 52-year-old said: “I’m not sure. “He enjoyed international football, when he was a coach.
“I liked the dynamic of it, not being there every day and bringing in players every week and dealing with the board and the academy.
“Yes, that’s fascinating.”
The Irish Football Association opted not to hand Kenny a new contract following the friendly draw with New Zealand at the Aviva Stadium in November following a disastrous Euro 2024 qualifying defeat.
The FAI is understood to be hoping to make the booking ahead of the Nations League draw in Paris on February 8. The new manager will be paid an annual salary of 560,000 euros on a four-year contract until the 2028 European Championship, which will be played in Dublin.
Ireland are scheduled to play a friendly double-header against Belgium and Switzerland in Dublin in March.

Lee Carsley, who won 40 caps for Ireland between 1997 and 2008, is seen as one of the FAI’s top candidates. Carsley, who replaced Boothroyd in 2021, led England to the European Championship title by defeating Spain 1-0 in the final last summer.
Other candidates include Neil Lennon, Chris Coleman, Anthony Barry and Chris Hughton.
