Slovakia (3-1-0-0) finished second in Group B at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden and will play Finland (1-2- 1-0). They finished 3rd in Group A. Slovakia lost to the United States 10-2 in Sunday’s final match, clinching Group B. Finland also played on Sunday, winning Group A with a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over hosts Sweden. Slovakia has won two medals at the World Juniors, in 1999 and 2015, winning bronze both times. The Finn racked up 17 medals at the tournament, including five gold, and will take silver in Edmonton in 2022.

Selvák Petrovski leads Slovakia with five goals and nine points. He was a sixth-round pick of the Minnesota Wild in 2022 and currently plays for the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League. Peter Lepczyk and Calgary Flames 2023 first-round pick Samuel Honzek each have three goals. In net, Adam Gajan is undefeated with a .934 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average.

Kasper Haltunen, drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the second round this year, leads Finland with three goals and three assists. Noah Valli, an 18-year-old goalkeeper who plays for TPS in Finland’s Liga, has stopped 92.9 percent of the shots he has faced and has a GAA of 1.94.
