A status orange wind warning has been issued for the entire county starting tomorrow until early Monday morning, warning the public to stay indoors starting tomorrow.
Met Eireann said Storm Isha would bring “very strong south-westerly winds with severe and harmful gusts”, creating large waves on coastal roads, causing debris to fall and making travel difficult. .
A Status Orange Wind Warning will be in effect for all counties from 5pm Sunday to 2am Monday.
The warning will remain in place for a further three hours in County Donegal and will be lifted at 5am on Monday.
A yellow wind warning will be in effect nationwide from Sunday morning until 4 a.m. Monday.
A status red marine warning is in effect from 7pm Sunday until early Monday morning due to severe weather from Ellis Head to the Bloody Foreland and Fair Head, with winds in the range of storm force 10 or “severe.” It is expected to reach 11.
Saturday night is expected to be “wet and windy” with overnight lows of between 3C and 8C.
The forecaster warned of “strong gales” and heavy rain in parts of the country on Sunday.
Alan O’Reilly, from Carlow Weather, said the storm was expected to “intensify by the morning and remain strong throughout the day”, with the strongest winds expected into the evening.
Heavy rain is also expected, with more than 50mm of rain possible in the west of the country, Mr O’Reilly said.
Temperatures are expected to remain mild, with highs of 10 to 13 degrees.
Cork County Council announced that its severe weather assessment team met today following the weather warning. He said council response personnel and contractors were on standby.
The county is currently in the neap tide season, but a storm surge advisory has been issued as storm surge, high waves, and strong winds are expected.
“High waves, heavy rain, and storm surge could cause waves to overtop and cause coastal flooding,” it said.
“The public is advised to stay well, stay dry and stay away from coasts, rivers and lakes. Strong wind gusts and high waves are expected, so please refrain from heading to coasts or mountainous areas. We are asking people to refrain from visiting.”
“Cork County Council would like to advise road users to be aware of the dangers posed by strong winds. If sudden heavy rain occurs, flooding may occur in some areas and driving conditions may be hazardous. There is a possibility that it will be.”
It also said strong winds could cause localized power outages.
