The strike announced in Finland from 1 to 3 February 2024 will also affect paper companies and the forest products industry as a whole.
The Finnish paper workers’ union Paperiliitto and the industrial union Teollisuusliitto took part in a political strike initiated by the Finnish trade union umbrella organization Suomen Ammattiliittojen Keskusjärjestö (SAK). The strike against the Finnish government’s planned labor market reforms will begin at the morning shift on February 1st and end at the start of the morning shift on February 3rd.
According to Paperiliitto, affected mills in the paper and forest products industry include Stora Enso Enocell, Imatra (Kaukopää and Tainionkoski), Oulu, Varkaus, UPM Kaukas, Kymi, Pietarsaari and Rauma.
Metsä Group, Mölnlycke and engineering group Valmet are also affected by the strike, according to industrial union Teollisuusliitto.
Finland’s transport union AKT also supports this call, and the strike is expected to have an impact on domestic logistics operations as well. In particular, operations at all ports in Finland will be suspended from 6am on February 1st until 6am on February 3rd. It is also expected that there will be restrictions on cargo transport by road and air.
