Rasmus Hjølund extended his Premier League record this season to seven by scoring twice in the first half against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Sunday afternoon.
The 21-year-old Denmark international struggled to get on the scoresheet in the Premier League earlier this season, but is now enjoying himself and scoring goals and is full of confidence, but he is also looking forward to the Champions League. He scored 5 goals in the group stage.
After joining from Serie A side Atalana in the summer, Hojlund failed to score in 14 games and cost United £72m in the bulging centre-forward market, costing him a huge amount of money.
Danish media “Tipsbladet” interviewed Danish national team assistant manager Morten Wieghorst, who shared his thoughts on Højlund, who has been attracting attention at United recently.
“It was a great thing to witness. It was a difficult period for the team, but Rasmus persevered. Firstly, he has a great mentality – that’s what they say over there. He has remained calm despite what has been said and written.
“You have to remember that he is still young and playing for a huge club. What he is doing now is great, mainly for Rasmus himself, but also for Manchester United and ultimately is also great for the Danish national team. It’s really good. Of course we want him to continue and I have no doubts about that.
“There are high expectations for a club like United. Again, Rasmus is very young, but I have to stress that he remains calm and focuses on what he can control. No. That’s what he does every day on the training ground and certainly what he does and has done on the United pitch. After all, that’s what a professional footballer in his position should do. That’s the most important thing.
“He has a strong belief in himself and his teammates, so he doesn’t let anything said or written affect him.”
United got off to a perfect start against Rob Edwards’ side and took the lead within a minute after Amari’s misjudged pass was latched onto by Hojlund.
The Danes let the ball fly forward and around the goalkeeper before taking the lead.
That lead doubled within minutes.
Hodjlund once again had a shot on target, but he deflected Alejandro Garnacho’s shot with his chest and sent it into the back of the goal.
The Hatters got one back in the 14th minute and hit the crossbar in stoppage time.
