A DKK 1 billion (US$145.9 million) tender has been launched inviting interested parties to submit proposals for the expansion of Denmark’s Hirtshals port.

The expansion aims to significantly improve navigation conditions, optimize port facilities and create more space for green energy projects. This would allow large ships to enter and berth in ports even under harsher weather conditions than they currently do.

Other works include the establishment of a marshalling yard and industrial zone on the port grounds.

The EU’s port expansion bid is a negotiated bid. This means that within the first month, a number of companies will be pre-qualified to submit initial offers, which will then become part of the individual negotiations between Hirtshals Port and the bidders for the final bid. means.

The benefits of an EU-negotiated tender include the opportunity for ports to obtain the optimal design for port expansion, ensuring control over construction costs from the outset. Additionally, negotiating with bidders facilitates clarity and agreement on risk factors.

Additionally, the negotiation process allows us to clarify the optimal schedule that accommodates the general contractor’s flexible construction timeframes and meets the port’s operational requirements.

Hirtshals Port plans to submit a final bid for approval to Jelling City Council by autumn 2024 at the latest.
