UPM has finalized negotiations regarding possible layoffs at its Finnish plant in order to adjust production to market conditions if necessary.
UPM has confirmed that UPM Pulp, UPM Timber, UPM Biofuel and Lappeenranta Biorefinery can be implemented for a total of 90 days from January 1st to June 30th this year. Layoffs may occur in the communication paper division from March 1st to August 31st. This applies to all of his UPM pulp, sawmill, printing paper and writing paper mills in Finland. Layoffs can be imposed individually or at intervals.
UPM explained that there is no urgent need for layoffs at this time and that the need will be continually assessed. Decisions regarding duration and allocation will be made on a case-by-case basis, the company said. If the need arises, the employee will be given 14 days’ notice.
UPM said in an earlier announcement that the layoffs in Finland will affect around 780 employees at the pulp mill, 235 at the sawmill, 1,100 at the communications paper division and around 90 at the Lappeenranta biorefinery. He said it was possible.
UPM has three pulp production facilities in Finland: Kaukas, Kymi and Pietarsaari, with a total annual production capacity of approximately 2.4 million tonnes.
UPM’s Communication Papers division in Finland includes Jämsänkoski (630,000 tons of SC paper, newsprint, labels and wrapping paper per year), Kaukas (300,000 tons of LWC per year), Kymi (high-quality and specialty papers) and Rauma (LWC per year). 665,000 tons).
