This Sunday, when Crown Princes Frederick and Mary ride to Frederick VIII’s Palace in Amalienborg to become Queen and King of Denmark, one special person will be by their side: their son. It’s Prince Christian. At just 18 years old, the teenager has been named first in line to the Danish throne following the abdication of his grandmother Queen Margrethe, becoming one of the youngest modern-day crown princes in the process.
With their father’s new role, Christian and his three younger brothers (Isabella, Vincent and Josephine) have gained worldwide attention, which is likely to be permanent. Especially since Queen Margrethe streamlined the Danish monarchy and reduced the number of working members, their official appearances and roles will continue to increase. Here’s everything you need to know about Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Mary’s four children.

Following his father’s succession, His Royal Highness Prince Christian will be the next heir to the throne. At 18 years old, he has already earned the impressive title of Christian Valdemar Henri John, Prince of Denmark and Count of Montpezat. He currently attends high school in Gentofte, a suburb north of Copenhagen. He is likely to start university in August 2024.
In October this year, he celebrated his 18th birthday with a grand royal gala dinner at Christiansborg Castle. All of Europe’s young royals were in attendance, including Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, and Princess Estelle of Sweden.
