A young American couple on their honeymoon ended up in West Cork during the Christmas season and became part of the Courtmacsherry community.

Jordan Henry, a local school social worker from Maine, and Andrea Steward, a local government policy advocate, hope to use this trip to visit Ireland, with the possibility of returning there in the future That wish came true.

“I’ve loved Ireland for a while and wanted to move here in 2020,” Andrea said on Monday, after taking part in the annual New Year’s Day swim in support of the Courtmacsherry RNLI in Broadstrand. Unfortunately, I ended up staying here.” In the United States.

The couple have known each other for over three years and had the special opportunity to visit Ireland for their honeymoon, staying at Ayr B&B in Dunwarley.

Due to their flight schedule, Christmas dinner on board was cheese ravioli. It didn’t take long for the young couple to find a place of their own, and they ended up at Courtmac Sherry on New Year’s Eve.

“The Lifeboat Inn was fun,” Andrea said. “I couldn’t leave here because it was a great feeling. We ended up staying here and meeting a lot of people like Emma and John (O’Donovan) and ended up going to parades all over the street. I decided to do it.”

Jordan, a drummer of note, filled the role. “I’ve been playing drums for over 10 years, but I started playing drums when I was very young. I think we set the standard with this. We played the bass drum and had a lot of fun.”

The couple also met John Joe Fleming, 82, a former local man who had returned from Boston.

During the swim, they also spoke with Tánaiste Michael Martin.

“We seem to have found a way to meet some of the most amazing people in Ireland, we are really lucky. wanted to take a picture with him, but he just wanted to talk to people and seems very humble.”

As for their future plans, they added, “We would like to come back any time of the year. The weather was perfect (as it was raining).” We would like to move here, but we hear that it is difficult to find housing and prices are high, just like in America. ”

The hot whiskey after the swim made an unforgettable week in Ireland even warmer, so they might come back for an even longer visit.
