From Connor Bedard to Tyler Peddle, see more Canadian content in Nashville
Even after another successful NHL Draft, one thing is clear. That said, no other country trains hockey players like Canada.
In total, more than a third of the players whose names were called in Nashville, 87 of the 224, are from north of the 49th parallel. (This also includes players who were born outside the country but are products of the Canadian hockey system, like No. 37 pick Ethan Gauthier.)
This list includes 10 members and 33 individuals who have worn the Maple Leaf in international competition.
The Red and White match started in first place, with two-time IIHF World Championship gold medalist Connor Bedard taking first place and becoming the Chicago Blackhawks. The North Vancouver, British Columbia, native is the second No. 1 pick from Canada’s westernmost province, joining Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (2012).

Bedard broke the world junior record and set the all-time record for goals (17) and points (36) by a Canadian player.
Adam Fantilli followed closely behind and was taken with the No. 3 pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets. He had a historic 2022-23 season on the international stage, becoming only the second Canadian after Jonathan Toews (2007) to win gold medals at the IIHF World Championship and IIHF World Junior Championship in the same season.
Of the 32 first-round picks, 12 were Canadian. That list includes seven players who helped Canada win gold at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Red Deer (Barlow, Benson, Bonk, Molendyk, Ritchie, Wood, Jaeger) and the 2023 IIHF It included three players (Barlow, Ritchie) who won bronze medals at the U18 World Championships (Wood).
The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) represented Canada. Of the 87 players selected, 68 are products of CHL programs and were selected from 39 different teams, led by six members of the WHL Champion Seattle Thunderbirds. The Western Hockey League and Ontario Hockey League led the way with 29 picks each, followed by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with 10.
The Seattle Thunderbirds (Hensel, Milic, Miatovic, Minio, Ratzlav, Sochin) pace all club teams with six selected players, while the Brantford Bulldogs (Brown, Lardis, Thomas, Zekai), Flint – The Firebirds (Bertucci, Day, Hay, Pitre), London Knights (Barkey, Bonk, Cowan, Julien) and Ottawa 67s (Foster, Gardiner, Meich, Pinelli) had four each.
