Russell Crowe sent his Irish fans into a frenzy when he announced his impending return to the Emerald Isle earlier this week.
Lacking any context, the New Zealand-born actor cryptically tweeted: ‘Dublin. July 1. Don’t tell your friends.’
Having drummed up excitement amongst fans, one replied: ‘It’s literally been 49 minutes [since this tweet] and I have to tell EVERYBODY!!,’ as another quipped: ‘Will we be entertained?,’ in a nod to his role in Gladiator.
It’s no secret that Russell has developed an intense grá for Ireland, having filmed his horror film The Pope’s Exorcist between Dublin and Limerick and forged a friendship with former Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy. But just what is the nature of the actor’s upcoming visit?
Well, mark your calendars because it looks like the Kiwi is set to return with his band Indoor Garden Party for a gig on July 1.
On January 24, Russell queried whether his Irish fans would venture out on a Monday to see him perform. He tweeted: ‘Going through a few logistics for live shows later in the year. For those in Ireland, more specifically Dublin, the date we have been given is on a Monday night. Do people go out on a Monday in Dublin?’
Russell’s Irish fans, who are naturally always up for the craic, had some hilarious responses to his query, with one X user writing: ‘We have a general rule – we only go out on days that have a Y in it.’ Another quipped : ‘Is the Pope catholic?????,’ and a third joked: ‘Sure Monday night is the start of the weekend!’
It’s unclear which Dublin venue will have the pleasure of hosting the upcoming gig; however, the last time Indoor Garden Party played in the capital, it was held in the 3Olympia Theatre.
The news comes amid rumours Russell, 59, is engaged to his partner Britney Theriot, 31, whom he began officially dating in 2020 after meeting seven years prior.
In photos published by MailOnline, Britney is seen sporting a huge diamond ring with an elegant gold band on that finger. The pair were papped in Italy having jetted into the country for the Sanremo Music Festival.
Russell and Britney confirmed their long-rumoured romance back in November 2020 when they were spotted sharing a kiss on the tennis court. They made their red carpet debut two years later at the premiere of his film Poker Face.
